VIRTUAL MUSEUM - COMPETITION

 

SABCA's Virtual Museum competition has closed. Winners of the following three categories will be announced early 2009:
 
     1) Person who submits the most geographically diverse number of butterfly records.
     2) Person who submits the most species rich number of butterfly records.
     3) Person who submits the most biologically interesting/unusual butterfly record.

 
Each category will have a 1st and 2nd prize, and some runner up prizes. There are fantastic prizes to be won, which will be one the following:
 
- A copy of the "Field guide to butterflies of South Africa" published in 2005 and signed by author Steve Woodhall.
- A signed copy of Steve Woodhall's newest book which is to be published in mid-2008, "What's that butterfly?"
- A one year subscription to the Africa Geographic magazine.
- A signed set of prints "Butterflies of Knysna".
- Various other books on Lepidoptera and LepSoc's poster "Butterfies of South Africa".

Conditions:
- The competition will run for one year (starting 6 December 2007, closing date 5 December 2008) and winners will be announced shortly thereafter.
- Any life stage of a butterfly will be elligible, provided the record is of good quality (i.e. good photos for ID purposes, good locality description and/or GPS coordinates).
- Only butterfly records from South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland will be elligible.
- Moth records will not be elligible for the competition.
- The competition is open to all non-collectors of butterflies.
