Type locality: Mazoe, Zimbabwe

Diagnosis

Male is similar to A. superba by (a) head black posterior to antennae; (b) labrum all blue; (c) dorsum of middle lobe of prothorax largely black; (d) dorsum of S4-5 largely or entirely black; (e) S9-10 marked with blue; (f) appendages all black; (g) cerci (slightly) shorter than paraprocts. However, differs by (1) ranging from Katanga and N Malawi to Mozambique; (2) blue on frons often does not extend beyond bases of antennae; (3) middle lobe of prothorax with dorsal blue spots, rather than dorsally black; (4) dorsum of S8 blue rather than having only a small blue dot and S3-7 with blue basal spots on dorsum, rather than dorsally all black. Habitat description

Mostly headwater streams, but also larger streams, shaded by (possibly gallery) forest. Probably often with coarse detritus. From 300 to 2100 m above sea level, but mostly between 900 and 1700, although possibly down to 100.
