Diagnosis

A bright yellow Gomphus endemic to south-west Europe and Morocco. G. lucasii may overlap in Morocco or Algeria. It is almost identical to G. simillimus and can be distinguished with certainty only by hand characters (see that species). [Adapted from Dijkstra & Lewington 2006]

Habitat description

Rivers and streams, but possibly also standing waters, in open landscapes. Often with bare banks, coarse detritus and a sandy and/or soft (like muddy) bottom. From 0 to 2000 m above sea level.
