Phyllogomphus schoutedeni Fraser, 1957
Crowned Leaftail
Type locality: Lualaba, Kabongo, DRC
Diagnosis
S10 yellow, denticles on dorsal ridge directed posteriorly, lateral excavations of apical border
bare. S4-6 black with yellow basal rings. Cerci pale with black tips, about 1.5x as long as epiproct,
with smoothly curved outer border (dorsal view). Face including occiput largely yellow, with
contrasting black markings. Hw 35-38 mm. Katanga
Male is similar to P. annulus by (a) posterior hamule stout, its posterior border semi-circular; (b) S4-6 all black or with yellow basal spots or rings; (c) cerci at most 1.5x as long as epiproct; (d) apices of cerci broad and truncate. However, differs by (1) being restricted to Katanga; (2) smaller size, Hw 35-38 mm; (3) face including occiput largely yellow, with contrasting black markings; (4) S4-6 black with yellow basal rings; (5) S10 yellow, denticles on dorsal ridge directed posteriorly, lateral excavations of apical border bare; (6) cerci pale with black tips, about 1.5x as long as epiproct, with smoothly curved outer border (dorsal view).
