  • scientific: A. panorpoides ascalaphoides auctt. nec Rambur, 1842 (in part)

Type locality: Fort Johnston, Malawi


Male is similar to A. inflatum by (a) labrum largely pale; (b) pale markings on Abd fragmented and frayed, extend to S7-8, S4-5 broadly black on dorsal carina; (c) S3-4 strongly swollen, S5 sharply narrowed, S6-10 slender. However, differs by (1) ranging from Ethiopia to S Africa; (2) carinae forming ventro-apical corner of S4 are largely white; (3) lateral carina of S5 usually partly white; (4) S6 more than 3x as long as high. Habitat description

Standing and often temporary waters in open landscapes. Usually with emergent and aquatic vegetation, often with a soft (like muddy) bottom. From 0 to 1700 m above sea level.
